Cannstatter folk festival and the New Year’s Eve run
Events around our hotel in Stuttgart
The scent of roasting almonds and Bratwurst in the air, the sound of excited children cheering on the merry-go-round and Ferris wheel, drowning out the music – this is the Cannstatter folk festival. With more than 300 stalls and rides, this is one of the highlights in the state capital’s calendar of events. There is always something exciting going on throughout the year around our hotel in Stuttgart – sports events, funfairs, concerts, and the famous German Christmas market.
The Cannstatter folk festival – also known as the Cannstatter Wasn, or Wasn, takes place from the end of April to the beginning of May as a spring festival, and from the end of September to the beginning of October as a folk festival. This traditional event offers a lot of fun attractions for children and families, including numerous marquees with food and beverages and fireworks on the festival grounds – located only 10km from the Waldhotel Stuttgart.
In the middle of the city centre, the Stuttgart Christmas Market transforms streets and squares into a sparkling sea of lights during Advent period. The city centre is just as atmospheric in late summer, when it turns into a pleasant wine village for ten days. In July, the market criers bring Nordic flair to the city with the Hamburg Fish Market, and at the beginning of August the citizens of Stuttgart invite you to a summer party with open-air concerts.

Next to our hotel is the trade fair Stuttgart, where exhibitions take place covering trade areas such as travel, health, yoga and technology. Whether visiting the trade fair as a guest or as an exhibitor, our hotel offers business travellers comfortable and convenient accommodation throughout their trade fair visit.
Ideally for sports fans, the capital of Baden-Württemberg has a lot to offer. If you enjoy being active yourself, you can register for the Stuttgart New Year’s Eve run or take part in the Nikolaus run in Tübingen.
Those who prefer to cheer on professional athletes have a choice between professional and amateur football and handball games, as well as motor sports. At the ADAC Supercross Stuttgart in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Hall, motorcyclists show off daring jumps; in the Porsche-Arena, the TVB Stuttgart meets the competitors of the handball national league; the VfB Stuttgart plays its home games in the Mercedes-Benz-Arena. The Stuttgart Kickers are at home local to the hotel- the Gazi Stadium in Waldau is just a five-minute walk from our building.
Music events also take place in the Porsche-Arena, which is only a 20 minute journey from the Waldhotel Stuttgart. The state capital is also home to numerous orchestras and choirs which regularly invite you to enjoy top-class concerts. The State gallery is the home of both permanent and changing art exhibitions.
A special cultural event every year is the Jazz Open music festival, at which B.B. King, David Gilmour, Herbie Hancock and many other stars of the scene have performed over the past 25 years.
